A while ago I came across a video titled:
"The Divine Frequencies of The Larynx”
The video prompted me to test out some of these practices to surprisingly positive effects. As Nikola Tesla once said:
“the secrets of the universe can be found in energy, frequency, and vibration.”
You've probably heard of chakras—seven energy centers located throughout the body. These mystic yogic centers may seem foreign to our modern sensibilities, but I think they contain wisdom that science often validates as effective.
I appreciate how simple humming or chanting is and how much it seemed to help me during my commutes to and from work. Those drives now feel faster, and I find myself happier and more effective at both ends of my journey.
It turns out, humming stimulates the vagus nerve, which calms the nervous system. Perhaps this is one of the many reasons children instinctively hum. Having experienced the benefits firsthand, I began to look deeper into these ancient practices.
The Practice: From Breathing to Chanting
It started with a breathing technique. Breathing deep, in through the nose, holding for a moment, inhaling even more, then slowly releasing through the mouth, fully emptying the lungs and relaxing until the urge to inhale overcomes you.
This foundational rhythm sets the tone—a calming prelude to the symphony of sound to come. Much like those childhood moments of humming that drove everyone crazy but felt so right, the vibrations begin to settle in the chest. Next comes the chanting.
Chanting each mantra—Lam, Vam, Ram, Yam, Ham, Om—brings a focus to the energy centers within the body. Each sound resonates with a different part of the body and mind, a subtle yet profound experience of tuning myself like an instrument. I feel guided by the resonant sensations, much like how a movie score shapes our emotional journey through film.
Root Chakra (Lam): I feel grounded, connected to the earth. A stability takes hold as the mantra settles deep within me.
Sacral Chakra (Vam): A spark of creativity ignites, a playful energy that feels fluid and alive.
Solar Plexus Chakra (Ram): Confidence blooms. The sound fills me with a sense of purpose and determination.
Heart Chakra (Yam): Warmth radiates from my chest, a feeling of love and compassion flowing outward.
Throat Chakra (Ham): My voice feels clear and strong. Thoughts align, and words seem to carry a newfound power.
Third Eye Chakra (Om): A gentle hum opens the door to intuition and insight. The world feels interconnected.
Crown Chakra (Silence): I sit in stillness, letting the silence carry the sense of serenity and oneness.
Each sound builds on the one before, like layers of intention stacking together, creating a sense of alignment and clarity.
Science and the Esoteric
Of course, I was skeptical, but the results and experience speak for themselves. Who is working on this? Studying it, measuring it? It can't only be religious practitioners. There are indeed threads of both science and tradition.
Resonance, after all, is a physical phenomenon, and the vibrations of sound do interact with the body in measurable ways. Brain scans of monks and everyday practitioners reveal that these ancient practices can induce meditative states that normally require years of silent practice.
Studies suggest that chanting can reduce stress, regulate breathing, and improve focus. But there's a deeper layer—something esoteric, harder to quantify. The people who practice these techniques, the ones who recommend them, are respected, honorable, worth looking up to or even imitating.
Chanting as Dance and Play
Even though I was only chanting in my car, it felt like I was accessing more than just pleasant feelings and calmness. There became intentional sequential "spells" I could cast upon myself. Each building upon the last.
Breathing: Grounded me. Created space within.
Humming: Brought focus, a sense of vibration and readiness.
Chanting: Activated deep dormant circuits. I felt as though I was aligning internally and externally, attuning to the profoundly universal.
Singing: Opened my heart, and the spirit of joy steadily rose within me.
Dancing: Like nobody is watching, it deepens the connection to one's body and thus to oneself. That deep connection is a form of playfulness, alive in and of itself.
Playing: Now free of the constraints of daily life, a more joyous experience emerges, tuned to the present—wholly immersed. It reminds me why we live, why we work, and why we explore. Through play, we discover the most. This act of creation is something we can do together, and I bring it to my wife and daughter, who is quite happy to join in the play.
This progression feels to have brought enormous benefits to myself and everyone I come into contact with. It strengthens my spirit and trains me to intentionally seek those conditions that are so good for every layer and level of myself and my family. When we practice it together, it becomes a shared vision, a collaborative effort, and our intentional steps toward what can only be described as heaven on earth.
Brief Guide to Sacred Sound Practices
For those curious to try, here's how I've found my practice unfolds most naturally:
Find Your Space: Choose a quiet place where you won't be disturbed. My car became my space.
Start with Breath: Focus on deep, intentional breathing. Let your mind settle.
Hum: Aim for frequencies which feel like they are vibrating your whole skull. Play around with the sound to suit your experience.
Chant a Mantra: Focus on one chakra at a time. Feel the vibration, embody the energy.
Layer the Practice: Add singing, dancing, or movement as your energy and confidence builds.
Experiment and Reflect: Notice how each mantra and practice affects you. Write it down if it helps.
Make It Regular: Consistency transforms this from a novel experience into a meaningful practice. Attach the habit to something you already do every day.
Intentionally Create your Future
What draws me to practices like these is their inherent optimism. They assume a world where we can align, where we can improve, where our energy is not just our own but part of the larger whole. By breathing, chanting, singing, dancing, and playing, we aren't just exploring ancient traditions—we're shaping our inner and outer worlds with deliberate care.
Heaven on earth isn't a place. It's a practice, an intentional creation. And it starts with the simplest thing: a single breath, a moment in your car, a willingness to make sound without judgment.
Reflection
What would it feel like to weave sound, movement, and intention into your daily life? Could this simple practice, even just 60 seconds in your car, align you with a deeper vision for yourself and your world?

Implementing These Practices:
Understanding the Power: Recognize that these mantras are not just words but keys to understanding and influencing the subtle energies within and around us.
Setting the Ambiance: Find a quiet space where you can sit or lie down comfortably. Ensure that you won't be disturbed during your meditation.
Breathing: Start with deep breathing exercises. Inhale deeply through your nose, hold for a few seconds, and exhale slowly through your mouth. This helps in calming the mind and preparing it for meditation.
Chanting the Mantras: Begin chanting the mantra associated with the chakra you want to focus on. As you chant, visualize the energy center associated with that chakra activating and glowing with energy.
Feel the Resonance: As you chant, try to feel the resonance and vibration of the mantra within your body. Each mantra has a unique vibration that aligns with a specific chakra.
Visualization: Visualize a beam of light or energy emanating from the chakra and connecting you to the universe. Feel the energy flow through you.
Duration: You can chant each mantra for a few minutes or as long as you feel comfortable. Over time, you can increase the duration as you become more accustomed to the practice.
Concluding the Session: Once you've finished chanting all the mantras or feel that your meditation session is complete, slowly open your eyes. Take a moment to feel the energy and peace within you.
Regular Practice: For best results, make this a regular practice. The more consistently you chant and meditate, the more profound the effects will be.
Stay Open-Minded: While the effects of chakra meditation and mantra chanting can be profound, it's essential to approach the practice with an open mind and heart. Everyone's experience is unique, so don't compare your journey with others.
Remember, the goal of these practices is to align your energies, connect with the universe, and foster spiritual growth. With regular practice, you'll find a deeper sense of peace, balance, and understanding within yourself.
