I can’t count the number of times I have gotten stuck. Restricted by invisible strings and constrains that can feel insurmountable in the moment. What if I told you those obstacles weren't barriers, but opportunities.
Some time ago I found myself instinctively exploring the edges of my physical range of motion. How high can I reach, how far can I reach standing on one leg, how far can I bend left and right? I approached my limits gingerly of course. I don’t want to be injured, but without testing, how would I learn what my limits are?
I've come to call that physical exploration: Limit Training—a philosophy born from my own wild, winding journey through technology, personal shortcomings, and deep discovery.
Where Boundaries Meet Potential
My path has been anything but linear, a real rollercoaster, at every layer and level. I’ve spent years, building drones, wiring batteries, testing high voltage, running robots, and programming automation. Even researching nuclear physics, chemistry, and thorium molten salt reactors. Navigating personal loss, diving into spiritual exploration, I’ve learned that every boundary is actually an invitation. An invitation to grow, to stretch, to become more than my previous self could bear.
The Physical Playground
It started as a form of dance. I'd challenge myself with unconventional exercises—one-legged push-ups, handstand presses, dancing at the edges of what was physically possible. In the darkness, behind closed doors, to understand deeper and deeper depths and range within myself. Each movement a bidirectional conversation with potential itself.
Success is only one of the possible outcomes. Those handstand presses? More like falling on my face ups. But that's the point. It wasn't about perfection; it was about pushing just a little bit further each time. Determining where the boundaries lie, pushing them further, an inch at a time.
Beyond Physical: A Cyclical Approach
I discovered this approach works beyond the physical domain too. It can be weaved into everything. When I'm stuck coding, I go for a walk. Feeling mental fuzz? I strike up a conversation with a stranger. Spiritually drained? I'll start writing or dictating the path forward.
If not Mentally then Physically,
If not Physically then Socially,
If not Socially then Spiritually,
If not Spiritually then Mentally,
It's a loop. A beautiful, interconnected cycle where each domain feeds into the next. Physical movement clears mental fog. Social interactions spark spiritual insights. The boundaries between mind, body, and soul should be indistinguishable, inseparable, fully integrated...
Mind-Body Inseparability
The mind-body problem is an illusion of arrogant intellect. Our nervous system is a highly integrated network that doesn't act like the artificial boundaries we've created. When you move, you're not just moving muscles. You are your muscles, you build strength in your Anterior Mid-Cingulate Cortex, you amplify your future potential action.
Navigating Social and Spiritual Landscapes
Social limits are just as real as physical ones. Ever feel awkward starting a conversation? There’s another virtual boundary. For me, simply acknowledging a random passerby has become an exercise in stretching my comfort zone.
How about spirituality? It's about asking questions, regularly exploring, reflecting deeply. Rejecting dogma and building spiritual connection with the same playful curiosity I bring to a limit training dance or a complex AI program implementation problem.
Automation as a Growth Tool
Technology isn't about replacing human potential—it's about amplifying it. Take AI and automation. I've built models to recognize wildlife in my backyard, used dictation to transform raw thoughts into articles. Each tool becomes another way of pushing boundaries, of seeing what's possible when human creativity is amplified by technological potential.
The Recursive Nature of Growth
Here's the magic: growth is recursive. Every challenge met becomes fuel for the next challenge. An AI model helps me write. Writing helps me reflect on my model of reflection. The process becomes a living, breathing ecosystem of continuous improvement.
Philosophy for Living a Fulfilling Life
Limit Training isn't about only about conquering limitations. It's about dancing with them, playing your own rhythm, riding the waves of life. Recognizing that every constraint could actually be the starting point for your next iteration.
