Have you noticed? everyone is supposed to buy their own house? Families are separated at 18, they work for each other less, and they come together less.
The hustle and bustle of modern life seems to be increasingly transactional. Whether or not you walk by strangers without acknowledgment is a good gauge. When work, social activities, and even familial relations start to feel like a series of transactions, each one demanding its own draining pocket of time and energy. You know you’re in a transactional rut… In the midst of all this, I heard of a better way, something deeper, more meaningful. A community that transcends the transient and embraces the permanence of blood & brotherhood.
In most traditional cultures, this is encapsulated through the multi-generational household. These homes aren't simply buildings with multiple rooms; they're hubs for shared experiences, wisdom, joy, sorrow. They are spaces where the strength of collective sanity counteracts the trials and tribulations of modernity.
Think about it: the convenience of shared responsibilities, the security of always having someone nearby, and the enrichment of shared experiences. Your children would grow up with a wealth of wisdom from their grandparents, the joy of play with their cousins, and the security of knowing that they belong to a strong, tight-knit family. You’re not just sharing a living space; you'd be sharing live experience, fostering deeper relationships, and creating deep abiding memories.
Living together doesn’t mean sacrificing independence, either. Finding the balance between shared obligations and personal freedom would be deeper. A kind of distributed pursuit and towards common goals rather than religious imposition and restrictive rules. Working & playing together to build a life that's much more than the sum of units.
Imagine a Sunday dinner of stories, laughter, and wisdom passed around the table alongside dishes of food. A home where the warmth of familial bonds counteracts the coldest winter nights. The cost of living is shared, freeing up resources for experience, and the joy’s of self built success. A place where the support and encouragement of your loved ones is right next door.
Not only about pooling resources, but about pooling hearts, lives, and dreams. Fostering a familial spirit that can weather any storm, celebrate any victory, and find joy in every day. This way of living—more a way of life, for living rich; and enriching life.
Such a path in life won't be without its hurdles. Changing deeply ones ingrained cultural norms is never easy. But every great journey begins with a single step. And maybe, just maybe, the first step towards rekindling the family spirit of America is to open our homes, and our hearts, to those we hold dearest.
It’s better to live together.
